Update on Quiet Zones

THE SHPA has been asked to post the following information:

We are circulating petitions throughout the village asking the Village Board of Trustees take the necessary steps to establish a railroad crossing quiet zone. Residents in Salem Hills wishing to sign a petition can contact Mike Paonessa at 86 Coventry Court, e-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , phone: 765-9169. The deadline for signatures is Sunday August 26th. I have attached a fact sheet on quiet zones for your information.

Support Sought for Quiet Zones

THE SHPA has been asked by local residents to let homeowners know about the recent support for establishing "Quiet Zones" in the Villge of Voorheesville.  Voorheesville has an opportunity to establish railroad crossing “quiet zones” in which trains will not sound their horns as they approach the intersections. The Village Board of Trustees need to know if there is community support for this idea. Please be sure to attend the next village board meeting on Tuesday June 26, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the Village Hall.

Crime Alert!

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple is warning residents about a string of brazen burglaries in Voorheesville. Sheriff Apple says the department needs your help to nab a group of burglars who target their 'next hit' by knocking on the door, to find out if you're home.

Apple said, "This latest group of people that are hitting us pretty hard, they're knocking on doors. If somebody answers, they're asking for directions, and if they don't answer, they're hitting the house."

Apple said, "If somebody is at you're house, and they're asking for directions, get that license plate for us. Get a description of them. Ask them some questions, see what their response is. We don't want there to be a confrontation, but we need your help to catch these guys."
